Spain Welcomes 4.4 Million Tourists In July

Spain’s all important tourist sector continues to show signs of recovery as the country welcomed 4.4 million foreign visitors during the course of July, according to the latest data just released by TourSpain. With the number of British holidaymakers growing to over 600,000, up by 287% versus June 2021.

This data continues to build on June’s promising passenger arrival numbers, when 2.3 million foreign tourists visited Spain – which, until now, was the highest monthly figure since the start of the pandemic.

July’s arrival figures easily break that record however and are up by over 100% year on year versus July 2020 – whilst standing at 42% of the pre-pandemic levels recorded in July 2019.

According to Fernando Valdes, Spain’s Secretary of State for Tourism “In just one month, arrivals from international airports have grown by 87.8 per cent thanks, among other factors, to the full effectiveness of the EU Covid certificate of which more than one million one hundred thousand have been validated in Spain, facilitating transit to these international passengers. If June is marked the best record since the beginning of the pandemic, the July data show that the recovery in international mobility continues to consolidate, placing us in a better scenario than last year, despite the restrictions derived from the fifth wave.”
